Research Notes
Semaglutide is a long-acting glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist consisting of 31 amino acids. Two structural modifications distinguish it from native GLP-1: substitution of alanine with α-aminoisobutyric acid at position 2, and attachment of a C18 fatty di-acid via a linker at lysine 20, which enables albumin binding.
Research interest
Semaglutide has been extensively investigated for:
- GLP-1 receptor pharmacology and downstream signaling
- Pharmacokinetic effect of albumin-binding modifications on half-life
- Comparison against other GLP-1 analogs (liraglutide, dulaglutide)
- Dual receptor agonist comparisons (see Tirzepatide)
